Academic Work

My research has focused on the political history of northern Canada (Northwest Territories), and on Inuit history. My recent work centres on youth participation in learning and documenting Inuit history and oral tradition. For this research, I work primarily in the community of Uqsuuqtuq/Gjoa Haven.

I’ve taught undergraduate courses related to this at Trent University and Queen’s University. I’ve also helped develop a variety of digital educational resources and tools for use at undergraduate levels.

I have a PhD from UBC’s Interdisciplinary Studies program (political science/geography) and a Master’s degree from McMaster University (History).

Consulting

I’ve worked as Project Manager on numerous research projects involving many participants. I’ve planned and managed budgets large and small, written grants (successfully!), and compiled an assortment of reports. I take care to pare down complex issues to plain language synopses and discussions.

I’ve worked with, managed projects and conducted research for a number of clients, including:

  • Parks Canada, Government of Canada
  • Department of Defence, Government of Canada
  • Nattilik Heritage Centre (Nunavut)
  • Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)
  • UBC School of Social Work
  • Nunavut Film Development Corporation
